Lightning! On the dome of the Holy Wisdom
A glooming sight of despair
For the final Roman emperor
On the alarmed air
Theotokos!
Why have you forsaken me?
And when the bells, so sombre
Pleads the souls to pray
The ghosts enchanted
Sweeps in the barren streets, astray

As you fade away from me
And from the sea to the Golden Horn
I watch the towers up high at my side
The city of God, where the ancient glory of Rome
Now meets the eastern shores
Noble Mother, I open my arms to thee
I will endure the assault of the oppressor
And if the walls won't hold the night
As they have done a hundred times
I won't hide behind my crown
For the honour of the fallen warriors
Who now stand in the halls of light
Forebearers, I open my arms to thee
Theotokos!
Why have you forsaken me?
Theotokos!
As you fade away from me
As the child out of its womb
The virgin leaving us to our doom
Under an auspicious blood moon
Yet our faith shall remain immune
To leave the land of which I was once a son?
To yield the walls of my fathers and live, but forever lost?
If the will of God is the city must fall on this night
I shall fall at the side of the warriors who gave up their life
My sons! Do not forget! (I lay down to save our legacy)
For we too long have loved and prayed our God (Not erased from history)
To be afraid of the light
My sons! (And if nothing remains tomorrow)
Do not forsake! (Only silence and fearful shadows)
Tomorrow we wake in the halls of light
And shall be remembered like falling stars

Fight! Ride! To Death! To Glory!
I dare not live in utter scorn
Nor die in such a dooming fate
