Neck - Caoineadh / Blood on the Streets lyrics

Artist: Neck

album: Sod 'em & Begorrah!!

The early hours, one Sunday morn in Portadown, Armagh,
Four friends were walking homeward
From a dance in a Catholic Bar.
To get to the Catholic enclave,
They had to brave the threat
Of a drunken, baying Loyalist mob looking for Fenian blood to let.
The R.U.C. were warned that night of trouble in the town,
But they sat in their armoured car & watched
As the men were kicked to the ground.
The mob kicked & beat them both senseless,
Then they stamped on one man's head,
Robert Hamill, an innocent family man, - 'til he was left for dead!
Where is justice? Where is the truth? Where are the human rights?
There's blood on the streets of Portadown!
Why was there nothing done to protect his life?
Was it because he was not a Brit that they watched him die?
Because he was Irish Catholic, they let him die,
Because he was just another Mick, they didn't care if he died...
The Hamill's got a lawyer to take-up their legal fight,
To take proceedings against The R.U.C.
& The men that took his life,
Rosemary Nelson was the lawyer's name- a mother, brave & strong:
She fought hard for her community,
To see justice was done...
She repaid their faith: she disclosed the facts; Their case it could be won...
But the cowardly enemies of The Truth
Killed her too, in a car-bomb!
Where is justice? Where is the truth? Where are the human rights?
There's blood on the streets of Lurgan town!
Why was she such a threat that she had to die?
Was it because of her integrity to expose the lies?
Because she had them running scared, she had to die?
Or was it was just 'cos she was Catholic that it didn't matter if she died?
In North Armagh, the families are left, To try & go about their lives, but the mindless taunts & evil threats
Make it Hell & twist the knife...
There's blood on the streets, blood down the steps, blood at the bus-stop side,
There's blood on the streets of North Armagh!
'Cos if you're Irish Catholic they don't care if you die!
Or if you're just another Mick, it don't matter if you die!
Or if you're skin is black, so what if you die?
Or if your face just doesn't fit, they'll just let you die!
There's blood on the streets, blood down the steps, blood at the bus-stop side,
There's blood on the streets all over this land!
'Cos if you're Irish Catholic, it don't matter if you die!
Or if you're just another Mick, -you're a worthless life!
If you're Irish Catholic, you just don't signify!
- 'Cos if you're just another Mick- so what if you die!
For it's the most distressful country that I have ever seen,
-For they're killing men & women for the wearing of the green...
