You can change my world Work with me Picture your spirit as a garden, and your heart as a tree Now work with me - if the grass is what you think Then the soil is your culture and your ancestry Full of flowers and fertilizer, dirt and debris We all have winters and our summers, falls and our springs But see I woke up feeling like My garden was all empty, I was lookin' for some life But the green was all gone like it was starvin' overnight Briars, brambles, and weeds were chokin' everything in sight Then the gardener came in with a grin on his face Had his clippers in one hand, and the other on his waste "Let's begin and dig in," he said, "Put everything in place." Then he held the clippers up, and I said, "Okay, wait." I know my way around You need me Your soul cries out For my healin' You're lost, not found Stop your strivin' You can't be revived Without dying He went back to the shed And he started up shovelin' up everything And he went up to the flowers Started up plucking up everything And he took all of those petals Steppin' and crushin' up everything Pruned all the leaves and cut up the tree And it started me talkin' all desperately, like "Wait a minute! How is this supposed to survive? This garden was my pride, now you've hurt mine Hi, I'm not mad, I'm okay, I'm alright But why you trynna light a fire and burn it to the sky?" He said, "Well, I could stop this if you want But first, do you realize the place I come from? I've been the gardener before even Eden was breathin' And you can't process my process without dreamin' a little "See your soul lacks minerals This worldly wisdom will never sustain and give you growth There's some things in your soul that will never make you whole But I know what kind of seed will grow a hundredfold "And if you let me take those flowers and don't blink I'll crush up the petals and I'll make a new ink And that indigo bloom will now become the deepest blue We can use it to make beauty in some other places too "'Cause makin' things new? Well, that's what I do well! You have no clue, and sometimes you prove it too well Give me your thorn bushes and I'll make 'em into crowns- 'Cause My blood is the only place that you will find a fertile ground So I'll uproot myself and I'll plant by Your stream 'cause it's All for Your glory I'll trust that You're good when that's not how it seems 'cause it's All for Your glory Cause You see something different for who I can be and it's All for Your glory And you're making me grow from the smallest of seeds and it's All for Your glory Rippin' up this whole thing Plantin' new life all for your betterment By yourself you're struggling Let me come and take all that's burdenin' Think your plans can save you? Trash your tries and let me just handle it Watch me work, I did it first Heaven's hands have worked the earth So work with me (You can change my world) See the gardener is me, but the garden is you You can invite me, my workers and my tools But you can also lock the gates of your garden, too So work with me (You can change my world) When the sun is beating down I'll give you just enough water to quench all of your doubts So work with me, 'cause I'm worth it, it's true Work with me, 'cause this garden is you
