Came to teach us all about Alice
Back in the days of Columbine
We taught schools to duck and hide, kill the lights, be quiet, there's a bad guy
But now we teach em' all Alice

I grew up here in Sheridan County district one
And we fielded nine on our football team but boy we could run
It's late September and school's in full swing
There's a chill in the air October's coming
I tell my boys down at the station don't be dumb
If you pull over a truck this time a year best assume they've got a gun

And Dad would take us out before class
And we'd hold guns and laugh and shoot squirrels and dirt
And I never once thought that bullets were to hurt other people
We'd leave em' unlocked in the high school parking lot all day

I dreamed district one had an incident
The bells were ringing and the phones blew up
And all of the neighbors came running with their guns
And I was stuck on a lead driving east on 14
