Biography
A brightly soulful vocalist known for her pop-, reggae-, and R&B-infused sound, Sade Serena first grabbed fans with her 2014 hit "Renegade." In 2016, she released her debut EP, Jerk Sauce. Born in 1988, Serena grew up in Miami, the daughter of Jamaican immigrants. She began singing at age 12 and joined her school choral program, performing in concerts as well as state and regional competitions. By the time she was 17, she was singing pop and R&B, performing at the House of Blues and other venues Miami, and drawing inspiration from Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Gwen Stefani, Beyoncé, and others. She signed with Def Jam and issued her 2013 debut single, "Tonight," which landed at number four on the Billboard Hot Singles chart. The following year, Serena broke through with her Top 40 track "Renegade. In 2016, she released her debut EP, Jerk Sauce, which included the single "Dum" featuring Shaggy. More singles followed, including "Stray" and "Daylight." A standalone single, "Crave Me," arrived in 2019. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
