Biography

Wavelength formed as a group of four high school friends in 2016 who have been writing and performing their music locally in their hometown Tempe, Arizona since then. Their songwriting ability and vocal talent got them attention early on while they were still finding their group personality. Coming from a range of musical backgrounds has a major impact on their writing, as no two tracks sound alike. Regardless of the song, the promise "good vibes and groovy tunes" ensures that this group never takes themselves too seriously. The project started with casual weekly jam sessions between life-long friends Ryan Pike and Eric Layton. At first they switched off between multiple different instruments but eventually they settled with Eric on the drums and Ryan on electric guitar. After one jam session with Luke Chiang, a friend from the school choir, the group knew they had found their man for bass and acoustic guitar. Soon after Sam Joseph joined on the keys and the band was complete. Collaboration came naturally to the group. Within just a few practices they began writing "Starting To" together, which became a top track on their self-titled debut EP. All other songs on the EP were written by either Pike or Chiang. The band's name stems from their collaborative experience. "Whenever we play we are all on the same wavelength", Pike says. This EP marks the end of their career together, but each member hopes to continue on in music in their own way.
