Biography
Kristján Kristjánsson (KK) born 1956 in Minneapolis, MN, raised in San José, CA, moved to Iceland when he was 10. In 1977 he and his wife to be, Þórunn, moved to Sweden and lived there till 1990. During that time their first 2 children were born, Sóley (1978) & Sölvi (1980). 1986 he went busking the streets of Europe. Later that year, in Hamburg, he joined Red Archibald and the Internationals on guitar for a 2 month tour of Germany. 1987 back to Sweden for his family and together they went out on the road busking, during which time he formed The Grinders with Professor Washboard and Derrick “Big” Walker, harmonica and childhood buddy Þorleifur Guðjóns on bass. 1990, after 5 yrs of busking, the family moved back to Iceland, where they now live. 1996 their 3rd child, Kristján Steinn, was born. In 1991 wrote and performed music for Reykjavík Metropolitian Theater in a play based on John Steinbeck’s “Grapes of Wrath”. It's still considered one of the theater’s most successful projects. He's written and performed for films, television, theater and accepted more then 20 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, 2 Icelandic Music Academy Awards and a score of nominations from 1991’s Lucky One up to today. 2015 - 2018 found him playing a support role in Netflix series Sense8 written and directed by the Wachowski siblings. 2021 Sean Penn asked to use his song from 1995, “I Think of Angels”, for his movie “ Flag Day”. Cat Power covers the song on the film soundtrack.
