It seems as if time had stopped moving The hands of the clock on the walls stood still And years went by I walked through the empty rooms Trying to never look at my watch Minutes passed like hours And years went by And I sat in a chair by the window Staring out at a never ending afternoon Longing to be in another day Any other day From the future or from the past My whole system had shut down I was off grid and off line Locked off and shut in Stranded in a vast shore of a never ending day I'd run aground, shipwrecked And every time the night came When the day was finally defeated I'd leave the wet door open when I went to bed And hope that a thief would slip in during the night And steal all my troubles away while I slept One morning when I had more strength than usual I walked out by the river and picked a bunch of wildflowers In a spot where I used to write my stories in my head And I hoped that one day I could make something again Something like the things I used to make A song or a story A story or a song And it would carry me away from this island And all the images of the shipwreck
