The Shipbuilders - Northern Rose lyrics

Artist: The Shipbuilders

album: Spring Tide

Many moons ago
When the hills were topped with snow
I gave my heart to a Northern Rose
She knew very well
I would fall under her spell
When she this mind that long was closed
So I went under it without a fight
When it came crashing down like the night
I was hypnotised
My mind was paralysed
I could feel my cold self begin to thaw
She became my guide
Like the moon that leads the tide
When she showed me the stars and natures law
To her, it seems though I was just a pawn
As soon I felt the scorn of her thorn
She left without a trace
For reasons I can't place
Well where she lies now, no one knows
When I awoke alone
My heart turned back to stone
But it lay in the hands of a northern rose
I searched high and low
But everywhere I'd go
It felt I was falling through a trap door
I heard from word of mouth she's a rose now of the South
But nobody every seemed to be sure
So now I'm living life as in a dream
No sounds leaves my mouth when I scream
I can walk out to the moors
Or track the beaten shores
If I call her name, it's to no reply
And try as I may, much to my dismay
I can never quite shake the tears from my eyes
I'm still waiting here in vain
To catch a glimpse of that flame
Cause many moons ago
When the hills were topped with snow
I gave my heart to a Northern Rose
