But to each one of us grace was given
According to the measure of the gift of Christ
Therefore it says, "When he ascended on high"
"He led captivity captive"
"He gave gifts to all men"
Now what does it mean "he ascended"
Except that he also descended to the earth
The very one, he who descended, is also who
Ascended above all
In order to fill all things
It was He who gave some as
Apostles, as prophets, as evangelists
As pastors and teachers, to equip the saints
For the work of the ministry
To build up the body of Christ
Until all attain to the unity
Of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God
A mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ's stature
So we are no longer to be children
Tossed to and fro' by waves and carried around
By every wind of teaching by trickery of people who craftily carry
Out their deceitful schemes
Practising truth, truth in love
We will in all things grow up into Christ, the head
From him the whole body grows, fitted and held together
Through every ligament
As each one does its part
The body grows in love as
Apostles, as prophets, as evangelists
As pastors and teachers, to equip the saints
For the work of the ministry
