How does anybody get from where we start to where we're going? It's hard to say, right? You know, I used to think that the paths of our lives were like a trip Where if you know where you wanna go You could plan out the journey of how to get there But after going on this journey with you guys I've realized, it wasn't a visible path at all Looking back, the moments that wound up being the most definitive And positive for me eventually Didn't come out of awesome times when the path was clear and well lit It happened when it was hidden and dark And I took a leap anyway Lucky results of unlucky situations I started singing seriously because of 'Triple A' I was totally disillusioned with my career And it took Bell's Palsy to make me grateful for the gift my ability to communicate was And that gratitude completely changed my life What I wish I'd known then is... I think most of us get confused about what the path of chasing something we love Whatever that is, is supposed to feel like We think, "I'm a nice person and I work hard at this And I care, so it should feel like the universe has my back" When things are working out, we think "Yes, this is how it's supposed to feel So I'm on the right path," which is true But when things aren't working out We think, "Uhh, why is it this hard? I must not be on the right path," which isn't true Those hard times aren't keeping you from your path They're the most important parts of it Opportunities to find out who you really are I think how we respond to those moments Might actually be what most defines how the rest of our story goes I don't know exactly where the next chapter of my life will take me But this feels important Knowing that the next time the light is dim And we feel like we can't see a way forward It doesn't mean we're stuck and we need to turn back It's actually a challenge To figure out what your heart is telling you And to take a leap Into the dark A leap of faith Even if we can't see exactly where it will land us It gives me courage to do it next time Maybe it's the only real control any of us have over writing our own story
