Norman Vincent Peale - Q&A: Loneliness and Taking After a Parent lyrics

Artist: Norman Vincent Peale

album: Live with Confidence, Vol. 2: Fourteen More Lessons for Living

I've really looked forward to today to answer some
Of the interesting questions ask by our listeners.
Ruth what's the first question.
A widow in Connecticut Rights, at the age of 19,
I married a wonderful man whom I grew to love more each year.
After almost 28 years of married life, my husband died.
He was a fine man, decent and honest.
I am now 54 my 3 children are grown up and married and away from me.
I am all alone, No matter how hard I try,
I can't reconcile myself to the fact that this wonderful man is gone.
I don't think I'm the self pitying type
But where does a woman fit in all alone?
I can understand how the law of your beloved
Husband must have change your life completely.
But you, obviously have the capacity for great
Love, and there is your answer, continue to use it.
Take steps to rebuild your life by working
Enjoying your children, loving them and helping them.
In order to feel needed,
You must do something for those
Who have no one else to care for them.
Have you considered helping in your church?
In your local hospital?
Or other community activity.
And then you know there must be some old neighbors around,
You can visit and aide with your problems, or just give them love.
From Los Angeles this listener rights,
People in families very often refer to a
Child as taking after the father or the mother.
Despite its obvious vanity, do you think this practice is bad?
I mean do you believe that unconsciously,
It gives a child an outside image that he must
Identify with whether he feels like it or not.
Well Ruth I'm glad that our children take after you, oh thanks Norman.
After all, you know,
Parents deserve a pleasure, maybe of a little pardonable pride.
And the reappearance of the family characteristics can
Have a salutary effect in keeping alive and final traditions.
However, it is true that over emphasis about taking after a
Particular parent especially if that parent is too well organized and
Disciplined might as you say develop
A parental image and identification.
That could be harmful to a sensitive nature.
The parent had better look to himself
To make sure he's worth of taking after.
