He walked into the temple
Like so many times before
But this time would be different
The Holy Spirit was his escort
This simple man was humbled
To be chosen above the rest
He was promised he would see this day
Before his eyes would close in death
Filled with great anticipation
Of what he'd long been waiting for
Something caught his attention
Coming through the temple doors
Was it Israel's consolation
This little babe with all his charms
Then the moment came when Mary laid
Heaven's Dayspring in his arms
(And he said)
I can rest I am blessed
Come what may this day I can say
I've embraced heaven's best
I have life heaven's light
There's something special in this earthen vessel
A light to shine through the night
In my mind I've often wondered
How he spent his final days
I can see them ending peaceful sleep
With a smile upon his face
Like Simeon I can look back
To an unforgettable day
When I too embraced God's only Son
And like Simeon I can say
I can rest I am blessed
Come what may this day I can say
