Marika Hackman - Let Me In (Commentary) lyrics

Artist: Marika Hackman

album: We Slept at Last (Track by Track)

So the last track of the album is called "
Let Me In", um, and it's in the same tuning as "
Before I Sleep"
Um, I wrote them around the same time
Um, and lyrically I think it's my favorite one, um, I don't know why
But it is, and it actually has the title to the album in the lyrics, um, "we slept at last"
Um, and it's kind of that thing of just giving in, you know, and letting go, and existing, I suppose
Um, and I actually, I recorded the demo in my bedroom, my flat in London, and um, we took it into the studio and tried to put down a track vocal and guitar
And it just, it was just losing something the demo had, and me and Charlie both agreed that we should just work around that so
It's basically, the vocal and the guitar were recorded in my bedroom on a shoddy SM-58 and a terrible audio interface on Garage Band, um
And then in the studio we just put a few drums in and a couple of extra little guitar parts and some strings
Um, but yeah, again, much like "
Skin" as well, the fact that it's got that personal sound of my bedroom in it again means it's, you know
I value it quite highly on the album, it's something that is very personal and representative of me
