Biography

Born in Broome, Western Australia, Kurrungaya Bieundurry also known professionally as Kayps is an Indigenous Walmatjarri and Bunuba artist now based in Perth. He writes and produces hip-hop focusing on lyrical and melodic rap with his signature distorted high energy turn up bass filled sound. Kurrungaya writes about experiences in his life but also tends to have fun with clever wordplay and memorable melodies. Kayps started his career in music as a “SoundCloud” artist who gained a following from posting “type beats” in his spare time. He released his debut project “Sunflower” mid way through 2020 bringing attention to his sound. Later that year he released the Paradox EP with frequent collaborator Lil Ducky, bringing an aggressive and gritty sound to his discography. ‘TOUGH AS NAILS! At only 16 years of age, Kayps is collaborating with the big names in Perth hip-hop including but not limited to Mali Jo$e, Wesley Black, Sowdy and And Beyond seeing a promising future ahead. Kayps journey has continued with being awarded the Triple J Indigenous Initiative as well as finishing in the top five finalists of Triple J Unearthed High. Kayps highly anticipated debut album, “BEAUTY AMONG THE CHAOS”, was released in September 2021.
