Biography

Ishawna is a Jamaican performer widely considered as the leading voice of the new generation of female dancehall artists. Ishawna has been in love with music for as long as she can remember. She has memories of penning and recording her first song at the tender age of six. Her early musical aptitude is not surprising when one considers her musical background. When she was just a toddler, her father would often let her accompany him to recording studios, and that was the initial spark that ignited her musical journey. Apart from being one of the most controversial dancehall entertainers of her time, Ishawna displays vocal control and range uncommon for most dancehall artistes. Being lyrically bold, and unapologetically herself has placed her as one of the most prominent artists in the Dancehall arena. Over the years she has accumulated quite a number of hits, Want It, Everybody Need Someone, Pot of Gold and Slippery When Wet are only a few. In 2017 she released what turned out to be one of Jamaica’s biggest and most controversial hit “Equal Rights" a remix to Ed Sheeran’s hit Shape Of You. Equal Rights addressed one of Jamaica's most taboo topics igniting a firestorm in the process. Her unique combination of raw talent, raunchy lyrics, and having what is described as a cult like following, makes her highly highly demanded.
