Biography
Since 2016 singer/songwriter Tamara Westwood has been sharing her moody and technical brand of emo pop as Freya, filling rooms with her dreamy and lush live performances. Performing and penning personal and emotional songs in a style she calls “dreamo,” (a sort of emo/dream pop hybrid), Freya’s sound makes callbacks to 90s indie and emo staples such as Slowdive, American Football, Ride, Cocteau Twins and Pinback, to name a few. Her drowning, jangly guitars are supported by prominent bass and drum machines varying from hi-fi acoustic samples to lo-fi General MIDI. Lush synths soar above the mix, laying a foundation for Westwood’s layered vocals, desperate and soft, sharing intimacies and life experience, making for direct yet poetic lyrics that are voyeuristic in nature yet still publicly adaptable. Freya has released three EPs and one LP since her debut EP, Attic, released in mid-2016. Experimenting with ambient, shoegaze, midwest emo and math rock, Freya’s sound has evolved and shifted over her four releases, culminating in her latest three singles; Nineteen Hours, Breath and Chime and Cohabitation, taken from her sophomore LP, The Fifth.
