Biography

A musician from the age of three, much of Melbourne born and based songwriter/producer Daniel Joshua's early upbringing revolved around classical music, both in his musical training and at home.
It wasn't until the end of school that he began writing music. Through a series of bootleg remix works under the name ‘Droptail’, Joshua's first musical forays gained exposure locally and internationally, with Gilles Peterson, Plastician, & Pilerats among the admirers. Radio play on FBi Radio, triple j and Rinse FM led to an opportunity to officially rework Vance Joy’s ‘Mess Is Mine’ with Casper Zazz. Despite these accolades, something felt missing to Joshua from his music; it lacked his own identity.
Imbued by his exposure to the likes of James Blake, Aphex Twin and Thom Yorke, Joshua became increasingly invested in blending transformative textures into his compositions. A formative, existential six-month period living North Carolina served as a catalyst for further development. This conceptual and philosophical revolution of his own voice led to his reclaiming of his middle name as part of his musical identity.
In 2021, Joshua released his debut EP, 'In Retrospect', four years after writing its first demo. With co-signs from Jon Hopkins and Dummy Mag for his “otherworldly electronic-tinged art pop”, the glassy sound palettes and vibrant instrumentation are illustrative of an artist finally comfortable sitting in between genre and, more importantly, being in his own skin.
