Biography
Messenger Down is the stage name and musical outlet of Charlotte, NC based alternative pop artist Garrett Foster. Pairing raw instrumentation and soaring melodies with electronic soundscapes and pop sensibility, Foster creates a diverse and eclectic sound that seamlessly dances between synthpop, indie rock, alternative R&B, emo, hip-hop, and funk. After spending most of his late teens playing alongside friends in local bands, the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist debuted Messenger Down in 2012 with a handful of upbeat, pop-punk inspired singles online. He then began performing locally alongside a rotating cast of musicians featuring now members of Never I, Ghosts Again, The Chroma Divide, and The Second After, and between 2013 and 2015 self-released two EP's, toured up and down the east coast, and even scored a spot on the Charlotte date of the Vans Warped Tour for three consecutive years. A shift in momentum and creative ideas lead him to begin the process of reinventing himself and started incorporating elements of hip-hop and electronic music into his 2016 EP Cheating Death. Foster has spent the time since recording a stockpile of new music on his own and alongside a number of different producers, engineers, and collaborators, and in 2018 released a handful of singles including Where You Been?, Ride, and Highlight. With what one can only assume to be an album on the way for the year, it would be wise to keep your eyes on Messenger Down.
