A statue of a summer's day still has hallowed ground
I saw it there when I was born, just as I see it now
Though I have moved my point of view, so angles they have changed
The congregation bow their heads, the statue stays the same
Coffin goes beneath the ground, to make sure I am dead.
I'll try and spend more time outside,
Breaking the bread
When I was young, it felt as though, the statue could not move.
My father's camera round my neck, an endless afternoon
In those days we would watch the sun, running from the swell,
As if the seeds of time we ploughed, the crops could never fail.
And each night that I dream, of days that I was there.
Each morning as the dough dries, we'd be breaking the bread
I was blind when we first met, to the changing of the light
But your love's like a telescope, focused on my mind
Now each day has an evil twin, where our paths have split
If your heart is an ocean, then I am a sinking ship
And the violins they are playing, as water breaches the decks
But I am just sat here, drinking wine, and breaking the bread
We compare ourselves too much
To the things we hate
And all the things that hold you back,
Are the same things that make you great
In a small town where the cliffs come down,
I first noticed you had moved
But time is never wasted when I have wasted it with you
Well we stayed up til the morning, exchanged keys to our heads
Through laughter and through talking, we were waking the dead
We have all been gone before, and will be gone again
So as this interlude is short, I'll state my intent
Marry me, beneath the trees, my mother brought to bloom
And we'll see how far the circle goes around the old statue
And when each angle has been seen and there's nothing to be said
They'll find us nestled on the stone, waking the dead
I saw it there when I was born, just as I see it now
Though I have moved my point of view, so angles they have changed
The congregation bow their heads, the statue stays the same
Coffin goes beneath the ground, to make sure I am dead.
