Biography
"It's my favorite song about a kleptomaniac girlfriend...Aquaman...plastic bags, I hope it's yours." That's Mark Aaron James introducing his quirky takes on universal themes. Raised in Florida with a strong alt-pop background, Mark seemed an unlikely Nashvillian. At Vanderbilt he quickly became a fixture at "porch parties" that earlier supported Indigo Girls & Ben Folds. Following his critically acclaimed first CD, Mark was voted Best Local Songwriter and Best Band in The Nashville Scene reader's poll, beating out Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle. He repeated the feat in 2001. His single made WRLT's annual top 100, gained airplay on Atlanta's 99X and charted on 126 CMJ stations. Regularly reminded that he was a rock singer in a country town, after well-received shows and TV appearances, he moved to NYC, headlining at the Living Room, Rockwood Music Hall, and The Bitter End. New York's Underground Music Org. voted him among the "Top Singer/songwriters in Greenwich Village" 2 years in a row. Mark released his 3rd CD and his song "June 17th" was featured in Lost. In 2008, issued a rare artist visa, Mark moved to London and garnered a solid European following. After making his West End debut in the Vaudeville Theatre with Alan Cumming (I Bought A Blue Car Today), Mark released a live CD, recorded at the PRS venue of the year. In 2011 he returned to NYC, several albums and a musical, (HERO), followed. Check out all his songs, and thanks for listening!
