Biography

Including members of Screeching Weasel, Teen Idols, Common Rider, Groovie Ghoulies, the Avengers, the Queers (and having included members of Alkaline Trio and Smoking Popes in the past), Squirtgun has close connections with some of the most important names of the 90s pop-punk explosion. This was no accident, as band founder and producer Mass Giorgini had worked with some of that era’s biggest names, including Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt of Green Day, Alkaline Trio, Rise Against, and Anti-Flag.
Squirtgun plays melodic punk rock in the Lookout Records tradition (the label that issued their first two albums), drawing on bands like the Descendents, Green Day and Screeching Weasel. The band formed in the fall of 1993 Giorgini decided to form a new band out of the remnants of his old band, Rattail Grenadier. In 1995, Squirtgun recorded their debut EP, Shenanigans. A song off this record, "Social," was featured in the Kevin Smith film Mallrats. Their self-titled album was released later that year. After recruiting guitarist and vocalist Zac Damon for live shows, the band put out their second EP Mary Ann in 1996 as a tribute to Mary Ann of Gilligan's Island and shot a video featuring actress Dawn Wells. Squirtgun's album Another Sunny Afternoon came out in 1997. Their third and most propulsive full-length, Fade to Bright, was released by Fat Wreck Chords in 2003, and their live album Broadcast 02.09.08 was released in 2009.
