Biography
One of the "heavy yet melodic" American rock bands to emerge in the early 21st century, Atlanta-based Injected were formed in the mid-'90s by Danny Grady (vocals, guitar), Steve Slovisky (bass), and Chris Wojtal (drums) while in high school. All three members had played together intermittently in local bands. With pop-punk in fashion at the time, leader Grady made a conscious effort to pen tunes with an eye to the craftsmanship of bands like the Beatles and Nirvana, while also offering up powerful riffs. Adding charismatic second guitarist Jade Lemons to the lineup, Injected released the Hammered & Enamored EP in 1996 and spent the next few years building a local following before they were snapped up by Island Def Jam. With producer Butch Walker at the helm, the quartet recorded tracks for its subsequent debut LP at the renowned Bearsville Studios in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. Burn It Black was released in 2002 and hit the Billboard 200, while the single "Faithless" landed on the rock and alternative charts. Songs from the album were featured on soundtracks for the action blockbusters The Scorpion King, Spider-Man, and The Fast and the Furious. The bandmembers soon parted ways, but reunited for a charity event in May of 2009. When news reached Grady that Lemons had died unexpectedly in April 2016, he decided to release the last music they recorded together. Co-produced by Grady and Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk, Kurt Vile), who also played drums on the album, The Truth About You saw release on Slush Fund Recordings in June 2017. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
