Biography
Westside Detroit rap group Doughboyz Cashout spit raw, lyrical bars about street violence, sex, fancy clothes and cars, drugs, and the hustle. Formed in 2006 while the members were still attending Southfield High School, DBC was actually the result of a merger between two popular underground crews, the Doughboyz and the Cashoutboyz (aka Cashout Rich Niggas). At the core, DBC are Doughboy Dre, Big Quis (aka Crispy Quis), HBK, and de facto leader Payroll Giovanni. Other members have included HBK's brother Chaz Bling, Roc, Clay, Yae Yae Jordan, and Bmo Maine. Influenced by local Detroit-area legends like Street Lord'z and the late Blade Icewood, DBC continued their hometown's legacy for dense, aggressive storytelling when they issued their debut mixtape, We Run the City, in 2007. They continued the series with a second and third installment before the 2012 full-length Free Roc, released around the time the eponymous DBC member was incarcerated. As they built a significant grassroots following around Detroit, their sound traveled south, catching the ears of Atlanta rappers T.I. and Young Jeezy. Jeezy would sign the crew to his CTE World label in early 2013 and, along with fellow CTE signee YG, issued DBC's first effort for the label, Boss Your Life Up Gang (aka "BYLUG"), that summer. We Run the City #4 followed the year after and BylugWorld appeared in 2015. The 'boyz parted ways with CTE in early 2016, establishing Bylug Entertainment and their indie status. ~ Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi
