James Tillman continues to evolve & impact the landscape of music through his gifted singing, songwriting & producing. His music has received praise in publications like Okayplayer, FADER, Essence Magazine, and radio airplay from KCRW, NPR and BBC in London. He released his notable Shangri La EP in 2014. His debut album Silk Noise Reflex followed in 2016. A genre-bending update of R&B/soul, his song ‘Casual Encounters’ appeared in the Netflix series Dear White People, expanding his fanbase. Tillman toured stateside & abroad, performing at iconic venues like The Troubadour & Bowery Ballroom, supporting artists like tUnE-yArDs, Jordan Rakei and Charlotte Day Wilson. In 2020 he released his sophomore album Modern Desires—an intimate nostalgic breakthrough intended to soothe during the height of quarantine. Tillman released his 3rd album Magic City Thrill in 2022. Inspired by the Gary, IN origins of his family, the influence of musical greats like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder & Curtis Mayfield flows throughout. Tillman has collaborated with a wide array of artists. His songwriting & vocal contributions to Flwr Chylds single ‘Luv 2 U’ captivated the attention of the R&B world.
