Biography
Long-running New Haven, Connecticut metal band Dead by Wednesday built a following through years of touring and dedication to their music. The band would go through multiple lineup changes as they pushed forward, but they developed into a tightly coiled and hyper-focused metal machine around the vision of core members. Their sound ranged from pummeling metalcore to the occasional acoustic ballad on their self-titled 2019 album. Dead by Wednesday was formed in 2005 by drummer Opus, bass player Mike Modeste, guitarist Patrick Garcia and dual vocalists David and Ceschi Ramos. This lineup of the band recorded their 2005 debut album Democracy Is Dead, a hybrid of classic thrash metal and old-school hardcore that sometimes broke into syncopated rapped vocals. 2008's The Killing Project followed a similar path, but third album The Last Parade (released in 2011) saw an upgrade in production and a reshuffled lineup. For this album, new vocalist Joe Morbidelli took over for the Ramos brothers, and the band toured non-stop, opening for acts like Flotsam & Jetsam and Shadows Fall. After the 2014 EP Death of the Rockstar, Morbidelli left the band. In 2016 the band released fourth album Darkest of Angels. By this time only original members Opus and Modeste remained. They were joined by new guitarist Joey Concepcion and wrote songs for the album to be sung by 14 different guest vocalists. In addition to old friends David and Ceschi Ramos, the album included appearances from Fates Warning screamer John Arch, Shadows Fall's Brian Fair, former Mushroomhead member Waylon Reavis, and many, many others. Among the vocalists was Rob Roy, who would join Dead by Wednesday as their permanent singer after gelling nicely with the band when he added vocals to the dark acoustic tune "The Surgeon." In 2018, guitarist Dave Sharpe joined the fold as a permanent member. The quartet went to work on a self-titled album, their most dynamic material to date. Dead by Wednesday was released in April 2019 on Combat Records. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
