Biography

Stoney Point is an ambient indie-rock band from Duluth, Minnesota, formed by Joseph Johnson in 2017. The band's sound is characterized by psychedelic guitars, spacious ethereal textures, and emotionally strained vocals. Drawing from dream-pop influences, and treatments that mirror Brian Eno's ambient works. Their ancestry is mainly tied by bands such as Slowdive, Valium Aggelein, and Low. Despite experiencing multiple genre shifts and names Stoney Point remains creating new music. The band eventually settled on the name Stoney Point in 2019, following a trip to Duluth's winter surfing spot by the same name. Impressed with demos, a friend gifted them FL Studios 12 allowing them to experiment with drums and mixing. Their debut album My Guardian Angel is a Ghost was released in 2022. Following their debut they returned to the studio to lay down a more finished vision, concisely recorded in 4 months; Some Things Last a Long Time. Debuting January 2023 with a visual album on YouTube it is their most critically acclaimed project with accolades from small music blogs and peers alike. To Be a Bottle on Bare Skin is out now, but there is more to look forward to with the announced first single in a new album rollout out on July 31st.
