Biography

Punk rock is often championed as music for outsiders, and at its best that's true. But at punk rock's worst it's just as elitist, snobby and toxically macho as any other loud rock music. In Long Island circa 2007, the norm had circled back to the latter. It was the perfect moment for a rogue outfit of freaks and geeks to push back, and for so many people at the time, Cheeky was exactly that band. It was on their sleeve from the very beginning, every song seemed to fit into a narrative of reclaiming what rightfully belonged to those pushed to the fringes. Cheeky wasn't a band that set out to merely defend itself from the all-too-rampant machismo of high school cafeterias and punk house shows alike - no, they were out to annihilate it. And they had the chops to do it, too - many an unaware band shared a bill with Cheeky, looked at them as unassuming small fries, only to be promptly knocked flat as they unleashed their signature concoction of R & R and poppy punk. It's hard to come up with another group for whom everyone was so, so excited about. They really were everyone's favorite band. - Mike Catalano Cheeky was Kait Eldridge, Kate Wadkins, Brian Schleyer, and Angie Boylan.
