Biography
Immediately drawn in by her signature blue hair & angelic-yet-sassy style, singer, songwriter & rapper, Sonyaé will have your heart smiling as you take a trippy ride with her through her melodic tunes. Crediting the influences of R&B legends Lauryn Hill, Mary J, Erykah Badu & the late Whitney Houston, Sonyaé is here to let you know that she is a powerful force to be reckoned with. Born in Newark, NJ, she grew up in a household full of musicians across the r&b, jazz & house music space. One of Sonyaé’s teachers noticed her natural theatrical enthusiasm & started engaging her in various plays, both on & off Broadway. At a young age she was an obvious star in the making. “I don’t feel like I choose music because it’s always been present in my life organically. Honestly, I feel music chose me.” says Sonyaé. Sonyaé found herself in the south where she indulged in the distinct Atlanta music scene & made her way around some of the industry’s heaviest hitters. Sonyaé soon spun her music web into a short film titled, “ApeShit” the 18-minute film & 11-track soundtrack. In the midst of the film, Sonyae was still hard at work on her debut ep, “She’s Broken” which was released later the same year. In 2018, she relocated to LA where she scored a sync deal with Universal Pictures hit film, “Queen and Slim” for hit single “Collide” as well as landing her single, “Shade” in Issa Rae’s hit show, “Insecure”. Sonyaé’s versatility & everything blue persona is unapologetic and undeniable.
