Biography
Mention the name Humberto Ramírez to Latin Jazz fans, and it’s his virtuous, hard bop rooted skill as a trumpet soloist and leader of the innovative Jazz Project that will quickly come to mind. Aficionados of contemporary tropical latin dance music will instantly recognize his contributions as an arranger, composer and producer for such tropical music icons as Willie Colón, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Marc Anthony, Olga Tañón, Rubén Blades, Brenda K. Starr, Tony Vega, Domingo Quiñones, India, Victor Manuelle and a multitude of other salsa luminaries. He brings to Latin Jazz the very best of many different musical genres to create a unique style. By age 14, Humberto was performing professionally with his father’s band. Since then, he has share the stage with great Jazz and Latin Jazz stars such as: Chick Corea, Eddie Gómez, Paquito D’Rivera, Gato Barbieri, Justo Almario, Ray Barretto, Stanley Clarke, Chucho Valdés, Terence Blanchard, Dave Valentín, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Michel Camilo, Michael Brecker and Herb Alpert with whom he recorded the album Passion Dance in 1997. Humberto has received four Grammy nominations for his production work and his production for tropical pop star Olga Tañón won a Grammy in 2001. He was also nominated for a Latin Grammy for his album Sentimentales in 2013. Humberto’s proven ear for popular music has established him as one of the most active producers and arrangers in the industry.
