Biography
Westside Atlanta rapper, actor, and comedian DC Young Fly combines music with humor, attracting a dedicated audience with his prolific work on-stage and screen. Known early on for his celebrity roasting sessions, he also starred on MTV's Wild 'n Out (named Rookie of the Year in his first season) and contributed multiple projects to BET. Adding to his varied resumé, he also appeared in movies such as She Ball with Nick Cannon and How High 2. His first album, Curb Music, arrived in 2018. Trap Soul (2019) and Fly Womack (2020) followed. In addition to his solo music, he joined Karlous Miller and Chico Bean for Crack Smoke in Your Body, recorded live at the Nashville Comedy Festival, and The Black Wall Street Comedy Special, recorded live in Tulsa. Born John Whitfield in Atlanta, Georgia, he started rapping in 2011, partially to honor his late brother. Years later, he began producing comedy videos that were uploaded online, roasting figures like Drake and Kevin Hart. In 2014, DC Young Fly made his debut with the single "Westside Connection," which he soon followed with "M.A.P." In 2016, he issued "Right Now" and "No Weed." During this time, he also joined the cast of the MTV improv comedy show Wild 'n Out, taking a short break to host a brief reboot of Total Request Live, which premiered in late 2017. That same year, The 85 South Live Variety Show, an album culled from his podcast with fellow Wild 'n Out alum Karlous Miller and Clayton English, was issued. His work with Miller -- and Chico Bean -- continued, with subsequent live recordings Crack Smoke in Your Body (2019) and The Black Wall Street Comedy Special (2020) released in between his own solo efforts Trap Soul and Fly Womack. ~ Neil Z.
