Biography
Singer Peyton Parrish is known for his throaty brand of Viking-inspired country and post-grunge, as well as his inventive cover tunes. He garnered viral fame in 2020 with his cover of the Assassin's Creed Valhalla video game song "My Mother Told Me," which was included in the TV show Vikings. That same year, he released his debut album, Cowboy Man, featuring the single "Ragnarök." He has continued to explore a mix of heavy metal, country, and Viking traditions on releases such as 2021's Rise of Vikingr and 2023's inspired Disney covers album The Most Magical Album on Earth. Born in 1996 in Washington, D.C., Parrish moved with his family to Los Angeles, where he became interested in music while still in high school. He eventually moved back to Washington and earned his bachelor's degree. After college, he began posting a mix of cover songs and originals online. He also released several EPs including 2019's Vaccine and Thank God for You. By 2020, he had amassed a considerable online following, garnering viral attention for his cover of the Assassin's Creed Valhalla video game song "My Mother Told Me." Based on the Icelandic poem Egil's Saga, the song garnered Parrish yet more attention after it was featured on the television show Vikings. In 2020, he released his debut full-length album, Cowboy Man, which included the track "Ragnarök," as well as a cover of the Cranberries song "Zombie." The equally Viking- and metal-core-inspired Rise of Vikingr arrived in 2021, featuring guest spots by Lone Wolf and David Michael Frank. In 2023, Parrish applied his distinctive approach to a surprising album of Disney movie songs, The Most Magical Album on Earth, featuring selections from Mulan, The Lion King, Frozen, and more. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
