Biography
Emerging from the musical and intellectual hotbed of Boston, MA, Dan Masterson is a piano-pounding observer of an uncertain era — a proud yet anxious millennial. Known for his “beautifully wrought adult love songs, well-played and even-better-sung” (Worcester Telegram), and inspired by dynamic singer-songwriters like Taylor Goldsmith (of Dawes), Sara Bareilles, and Brandon Flowers (of The Killers), Masterson’s first full-length album, When Reality Calls, has received early praise for its timely resonance. “Eleven tracks of piping piano-pop, served with a self-aware smile.” — Vanyaland “The ruckus produced here is beautifully compiled…one of my early favorites of the year.” — Ryan’s Smashing Life A fan-funded success story, the album debuted at #2 on Billboard Heatseekers — Northeast, building on a series of independent EPs and a victory at the New England Music Awards’ Last Band Standing competition in 2016. Produced by Boston Music Award winner, Dave Brophy (Will Dailey, Ruby Rose Fox), and mixed by Pat DiCenso (The J. Geils Band, Howie Day), When Reality Calls turns up the dial on Masterson’s alternative blend of piano pop/rock as he takes on issues like digital dependency, romance, and economic stress.
