Biography
A formidable performer on stage, Thea Gilmore is amongst the finest singer songwriters of her generation, a frank and fearless pursuer of home truths who has constantly adapted to remain relevant in the fickle, forever changing music industry. And done so on her own terms. Thea Gilmore has released 20 albums, played hundreds of festivals, and sold out shows across the globe. Her music features in Olivia Coleman’s latest film Joyride (2022), as well as Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead (2021), Blithe Spirit (2020) starring Judi Dench and BAFTA award-winning Bait (2019). She has worked with and won the admiration of Bruce Springsteen, Martha Wainwright, John Cooper Clarke, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, Beth Orton and she was personally invited to open for folk legend Joan Baez in the run up to the 2004 US presidential election. Neil Gaiman (writer and showrunner of 2022 Netflix number 1 show, The Sandman) is also a long-standing fan, describing her last album Afterlight (2021) as an ‘emotional rollercoaster in a musical wrapper… a post mortem with better lyrics, executed by someone who can sing her heart out even as she slices into yours.’ 2023 saw the release of 'She Speaks In Colours', a song for love and loss written as part of BBC Radio 2's critically lauded 21st Century Folk project which features on her new eponymous album coming later this year.
