Biography

In March 2020, in Leeds UK, two strangers connect online in lockdown, sharing music and lyrics amidst the unease of COVID. With no access to other equipment, they begin to write on their phones, sharing files & using headphones for mics. That summer, with influences including Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode & The Cure, they record 10 electro/dreampop tracks. The duo adopt the name ‘Lines of Flight’ as a nod to the work of Deleuze & Guattari; referencing the limitations of circumstance which unexpectedly gave rise to their collaboration.
In March 2021, the band start to drip release their lockdown project as 10 monthly singles. 7 are accompanied by videos - also made on iPhone - by cultural geographer/live cinema artist Amy Cutler. In August 2021, Lines of Flight play their debut gig supporting Saccades.
Having amassed a modest yet loyal online following, the band release ‘Signs of Life’ on vinyl in November 2022, in the same month attracting the attention of Steve Lamacq for their debut on BBC 6Music. In early 2023 they support Pale Blue Eyes, in the lead up to the release of their sophomore EP ‘More Than Human’, produced by Ben Whelan & mastered by Katie Tavini.
The lead single ‘Becoming Bear’ featured in Tom Robinson’s ‘Fresh Faves’ & on his BBC Introducing 6Music Mixtape, after also receiving airplay from Emily Pilbeam on Radio Leeds. ‘More Than Human’ is out now.
‘A vivid reimagining of early 80s electropop for the 21st century’ ~ Tom Robinson
