Biography
Marcus Mumford is a British-American singer, songwriter, musician, and producer best known as the frontman and namesake of the Grammy Award-winning folk-rock group Mumford & Sons. He issued his debut solo effort, (self-titled), in 2022. Marcus Mumford was born in Yorba Linda, California, to English parents who are international leaders of the evangelical Christian Association of Vineyard Churches. He was raised in the London suburb of Wimbledon Chase, where he attended King's College School. After a year of study at the University of Edinburgh, Mumford returned to London to pursue a musical career, serving as the touring drummer for singer/songwriter Laura Marling. He co-founded Mumford & Sons in 2007 with banjo/dobro player Winston Marshall, keyboardist Ben Lovett, and bassist Ted Dwane. Emerging in 2009 with the Mercury Prize-nominated Sigh No More, Mumford & Sons found international success with the releases of subsequent efforts Babel (2012), Wilder Mind (2015), and Delta (2018), all of which reached number one on the Billboard 200. In 2020, Mumford teamed up with composer Tom Howe to provide the score and theme song for the American sports comedy-drama TV series Ted Lasso. The soundtrack for the second season the program, Ted Lasso: Season 2, appeared in 2021. Mumford issued his first solo album, the cheekily named (self-titled), the following year. It was produced by Blake Mills and featured guest spots from Brandi Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, and Monica Martin. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
