Biography

Indie singer/songwriter Misty Boyce is a solo artist who's also forged a career as a keyboardist and backing vocalist (and occasional guitarist) in touring bands for the likes of Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, and BØRNS, just to name a few. A native of New Mexico, Boyce took to the idea of a career in music at a young age, and began writing songs while in primary school. She would eventually go on to enroll at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, where she studied jazz piano. Boyce relocated to New York after graduation and worked to simplify her songwriting to focus on melody and story. The resulting self-released, self-titled debut appeared in early 2007. With an energetic, full-band sound, For the Grace of Odd followed in 2008. Soon, Boyce's keyboard chops landed her a gig playing for the Naked Brothers Band, which led to TV appearances on The View and The Today Show in 2009. She also backed Ingrid Michaelson on Kelly Ripa's morning show, and songwriter Tim Williams on a tour that included stops at the South by Southwest Festival. In the meantime, she continued working on music of own, and released a second eponymous record, this time with Modern Vintage Recordings, in early 2010. After a brief break from music that included the end of a long-term relationship and a move to Los Angeles, she returned with a slightly stripped-down sound on her Tough Love EP in 2012. Boyce spent much of 2013 and 2014 on the road in Sara Bareilles' touring band in support of the Grammy-nominated album The Blessed Unrest, as well as on her subsequent Little Black Dress tour. This included taking part in Bareilles' performance of "Smile" for the 2014 Emmy Awards in-memorium segment. Boyce also served as the opening act for select tour dates. In 2015, the musician self-released an album of lush, wistful indie pop titled The Life. She toured in support of the record, then joined prior collaborator and Civil Wars member Joy Williams as part of her backing band. That tour was followed by an invitation play keyboards and sing harmony for indie pop's BØRNS, including an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in late 2015. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
