Biography
Solo artists Trent Dabbs and Amy Stroup formed the rootsy, vintage duo, Sugar & The Hi-Lows in 2012 and seized the spotlight with their self-titled debut record. Since their inception, they have garnered praises from USA Today, Billboard, Marie Claire, Huffington Post and featured on Southern Living and the BBC Four, among others. Sugar & The Hi-Lows combines the artistry showcased in both Dabbs and Stroup's solo careers – with TV/Film placements on Parenthood, Nashville and Grey's Anatomy as well as Zales and Wal-Mart commercials. They have toured sold out shows alongside grammy winning artist, Kacey Musgraves and with indie-pop artist, Ingrid Michaelson. Now Sugar & the Hi Lows is releasing their fourth album, Shangri-La. While their sound obviously plays ode to the music from different eras, this 7-track project follows through with both the flitty, fun highs and equally poetic lows as only Sugar & The Hi-Lows does best. Sugar & The Hi-Lows is no stranger to drawing from their roots over the current trends and Shangri-La perfectly mixes a little bit of Amy’s Texas with a little bit of Trent’s Mississippi. From the playful nod in “Dip Dow” and “High Stepper” to the longing ballad of “Happiness,” each song is just as irresistible as its predecessor. The familiar nostalgia and charm found in their debut is featured prominently in this project, and their dynamic chemistry is undeniable more than ever.
