Biography
It is remarkable how much the music of Taciturn doesn't sound like that of earlier D.C. bands. One of the younger groups interested in considerably expanding the sort of sonic palette one finds in use in the nation's capital, Taciturn make concise and deadly serious post-punk. In looking outside the normal range of points of inspiration, they have crafted a sound that is big, smart, and entirely compelling. Heavier than anything saddled with a shoegaze tag, the tunes of Taciturn are invigorating and full of the sort of heft one found in past compositions from Killing Joke, Joy Division, and Sonic Youth. And while the three players are intent on stirring up chaos, there's stuff on Punk Death with more nuance, including material that suggests a variety of paths for this band to pursue. With their first two physical releases distributed by iconic hardcore label, Dischord Records, Taciturn have gone on to share the stage with members of bands such as Fugazi, The Messthetics, Government Issue, and Teen Idles. In a slew of shows following the release of their debut album Punk Death, the trio was featured in The Washington Post, and praised by outlets such as Left Bank Magazine and Destroy//Exist.
