nix, also known by her handle ‘uuuuuuuukewithme’, is a youtube musician who rose to fame with her ukulele cover of nicki minaj’s “superbass” in 2012. raised in both malaysia and the united states, the 24-year-old singer attributes her diverse musical interest in pop, folk, and hip-hop tunes to her nomadic history. known for her infectious smile and unique ukulele covers, nix’s colorful persona is appropriately captured by the sweet and subtle tone of her 4-string instrument. while completing her b.a. in math and economics at bowdoin college, nix continued to post covers of her favorite songs on her social media. in 2014, she was featured in reader’s digest best of american issue in a piece titled “25 uplifting, quirky things that could only happen in america”. in 2017, she was highlighted by nbc as one of 26 emerging voices who are redefining what it means to be asian american in america. currently, nix has a loyal audience of over 270,000 subscribers and 30 million views on youtube. she has headlined shows all over college campuses in the u.s., and was also a contestant on sing! china, a rebranded version of the voice of china in 2018. she auditioned with an ukulele rendition of “听妈妈的话”, and earned a chair-turn from jay chou, the original artist and one of four judges on the show. nix was eliminated later in the sing-off round, but attracted a following beyond the u.s. and in asia.
