Biography
Rapper and changemaker Ziggy Ramo knows his worth. An award-winning musician and producer of Wik and Solomon Islander heritage, Ziggy’s artistry challenges the settler colonialism and institutional racism upon which Australia was built. Through speaking engagements, music or directorial projects, his creativity channels perspectives that are often neglected or suppressed. With the release of his phenomenally important LP Black Thoughts in 2020, Ziggy floored the industry with his vital and powerful messages, commanding the attention of listeners and commentators around the country. Ziggy made his directorial debut in 2021 with the music video for Little Things, filmed in collaboration with the Sydney Opera House. The song is a reworked version of Paul Kelly’s classic protest anthem From Little Things Big Things Grow about the Indigenous activist Vincent Lingiari and the Gurindji strike. A true multi-hyphenate, Ziggy is making his acting and composer debut, starring in the Stan Original series Black Snow, produced by Goalpost Pictures. His second studio album Sugar Coated Lies was released 26th of January 2023. If Ramo’s debut album Black Thoughts was a manifesto, Sugar Coated Lies is a diary entry. The album dives into the ways in which intergenerational trauma can manifest. An offering of vulnerability that can radiate through house party speakers, this album offers an introspective reckoning with what it means to live with depth and nuance on stolen land.
