Biography
Zenet is a Spanish jazz vocalist and actor who made his full-length solo debut in 2008 with the album Los Mares de China. Born Toni Zenet in 1967 in Málaga, Spain, and based in Madrid, he cites influences that include jazz vocalists Chet Baker and Billie Holiday, along with a range of Latin music styles, from flamenco to tango. He initially established himself as an actor in the 1990s, appearing in films such as Juan Antonio Bardem's El Joven Picasso (1994) as well as various television shows. As a jazz vocalist with the dramatic flair of an actor, Zenet made his full-length solo debut in 2008 with the album Los Mares de China on the label El Volcán Música. Comprised of songs written by lyricist Javier Laguna, the album includes the promotional single "Soñar Contigo." Though slow to catch on from a commercial standpoint, Los Mares de China steadily made its way up the Spanish albums chart over the course of 2009, going all the way to number 21. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
