Biography
Julien Oomen is a Dutch/French, Amsterdam-based musician. He draws inspiration from spiritual ceremonies and trainings and from personal stories with a trapdoor to the universal. In 2018, Julien released "Oase Sessions I ", followed by "Oase Sessions II " in 2019. A full length album, "Both Sides Of The River", was released in 2020. The record contains songs that were inspired by men’s work, including the men's circle that Julien co-facilitates in Amsterdam. On February 10th 2023, Julien released his new single "Oncle Pierre", a song that celebrates the humble life of a man known as the ‘village fool’ in Meuilley, France, where his mother Marinette Oomen-Myin grew up. She wrote the lyrics to this song in 1969 when she was 20 years old. This song is part of Julien's new album “Les Cahiers de Marinette”, an intergenerational songbook which was released in April 2023. For live shows Julien often teams up with Lenneke van Staalen, a master of (northern) Indian classical music on violin, who comps him in his songs as well as playing mesmerising improvisations. Other collaborations include Pernilla Kannapinn. For interviews about the concept behind Julien’s latest album, go to: www.julienoomenmusic.com
