Biography
The Wasps are a UK Punk band first formed in East London, Feb 1976, they were there at the start of the UK Punk rock movement along with the likes of The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Damned, Buzzcocks, UK Subs, Sham 69, etc . Performing extensively across the UK at venues such as The Roxy, The Vortex, etc & twice on John Peel’s Radio 1 show. Their singles “Teenage Treats” & “Can’t Wait Till ‘78” from the "Various Artists - Live At The Vortex" album are considered punk classics from that period. Signing to RCA in '79 their single “Rubber Cars” was RCA’s fastest selling the week of it’s release, but the band were forced to split due to managerial disputes. Their albums with '76-'79 tracks are “Punkryonics” 2003 and "ThisWASPunk" 2011. Punk compilation albums featuring The Wasps: Action Time Vision, Perfect Unpop, Peel Show Hits & Long-Lost Lo-Fi Favourites Vol.1 1976-1980, 1977: The Year Punk Broke, Harmony In My Head: UK Power Pop & New Wave 1977-81, British Punk Rock 1977, 1-2-3-4 Punk & New Wave 1976-1979. In Nov '19, Lynn-Dean, revamped The Wasps, in Malaga, Spain for Punk Fest "Punkirola", Torremolinos. In 2020 their tour Spain/Portugal/UK inc. Rebellion Punk Fest was postponed due to Covid. In Oct 2021 a new Wasps album written by Lynn-Dean “Punk Prayer”, recorded at Hollers Analog Studio, Malaga. “Punk Prayer”. Release date 9th Dec '21.
