Biography

Alma is a music industry singer, songwriter and arranger from New York, based in Rio de Janeiro since 2004. Known for having a clean and flexible range, Alma is one of the most prominent voices in Brazilian Jazz, TV and movie sound tracks today since her unique participation on The Voice Brasil in 2012 as the only foreigner to reach the semi-finals singing exclusively Brazilian music in the national language, Portuguese. And in 2020 Alma was the winner of The Four Brasil on Record TV. Alma dedicates herself to different multicultural repertoires, respecting the traditions of many jazz languages, blues, bossa nova, samba, MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) and Popular music of varying styles from all over the world. "Alma Thomas Group" is a mainstay at Jazz Festivals throughout Brazil, from Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Curitiba, Natal, Belém, Salvador, SãoPaulo, Maranhão, Rio das Ostras, and Pará and sold out shows at the Blue Note Brasil since its inception. In 2015, Alma released her singing method "Organic Popular Singing" Amplifying the need for more actual didactic materials with styles like vocal improvisation, modern techniques for recording, interpretation of Jazz, Brazilian styles, and the performing realities of the modern day singer, in Brazil's native tongue, Portuguese. Currently Alma is a Judge on Endemol Sunshine North America's Brazilian version of "All Together Now" on Record TV also available on Netflix.
