Biography
Introducing a brand-new sound to the Aotearoa pop scene, NZ/Latina pop upcomer Amila has released her new single, ‘Changes’ featuring emerging NZ alt-R&B artist Rhys Rich. ‘Changes’ follows the success of Amila’s introspective single ‘Break the Pattern’. With her new single, Amila is lifting the tempo – signifying a shift towards an upbeat and dynamic sound and previewing what can be expected from her upcoming EP, ‘Life Changes’. In anticipation of the release, Amila shared her excitement about "Changes," stating, “This is a special song, and it's something you haven’t really heard before from any Kiwi artist. It’s a celebration of my heritage and the unique blend of cultures that have shaped my identity. “I’m so passionate about this song and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.” Amila (pronounced ‘a-meela’) combines Chilean and Aotearoa culture and sounds in an NZ-pop first. Her music draws inspiration from the raw guitars of the 70s, vibrant salsa anthems of her homeland, and the strong visuals of the modern pop world. Five AM Managing Director and Grammy Nominee Rory Noble says Amila’s music is, “a sign of the times for New Zealand pop music”. “We’re seeing a growing trend of homegrown music with diverse international influences, sounds, and language. Amila is a perfect example of what Aotearoa can offer to the globalised pop world, and what this world can offer to Aotearoa,” says Noble.
