Biography
Musician, pianist and composer, Ruben was born in 1976 and began his musical studies at the age of 5 and piano at the age of 8. He completed his jazz studies in Barcelona. His numerous performances, both solo and together with other national and foreign artists, are not limited to musical performances, but span across areas as diverse as theatre, cinema and television. With several years of pedagogical experience, Ruben teaches privately and inschools, from complete beginner level to the most advanced levels. He has also held several workshops. In the areas of cinema and television he has participated with improvised interpretations in Cinemateca Portuguesa Silent Movie Cycles, and as professor and pianist in TV shows.He has presented himself alongside several singers, such as Carminho, Mariza and Fausto. He currently plays with Rui Veloso, Cuca Roseta e João Gil. Ruben has released his own jazz albums: "Clara Madrugada" (2000), "Súbito" (2008). In 2012 he released the album "Kolme", in co-authorship with Carlos Miguel (Drums) and Miguel Amado (Contrabass), and more recently "Kolme II" (2017). His latest album is “O mais pequeno espaço apreciável de tempo” (2018). Ruben also works as musical producer. His most recent productions include Xave with Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho (2019), Monda (2017) and the Portuguese version of the musical “Cabaret”.
