Biography
Azulⴰⵣⵓⵍ is a band born in Naples from Maghrebi and South American parents but with North American accents. In 2019, Neapolitan singer-songwriter Marilena Vitale (Fede'n'Marlen) calls upon three musicians from the national scene, Dario Di Pietro (Luk, Flamenco Napuleño), Riccardo Schmitt (Ondanueve, Pasquale Catalano) and Enrico Valanzuolo, to participate in a project written almost entirely in Spanish and open to jazz, folk blues and Latin influences. The band presents Azulⴰⵣⵓⵍ for the first time at the Teatro Galleria Toledo in Naples as part of the "Songs" review and at the Piccolo Bellini in Naples as part of the "BeQuiet - Concerti al Piccolo Bellini" review. In October 2019, the band enters the roster of "Apogeo Records" and in December of the same year they release their first self-titled record which receives great enthusiasm from the public and critics. The record is an EP consisting of an anthology of six songs written in four different languages: Spanish, Neapolitan, Portuguese and Italian. The songs are about love, integration and reading madness through the key of art. In the meantime, the band collected a good number of concerts also outside the region, participating in various festivals such as Atella Sound Circus and Ecosuoni 2021 together with Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti. In 2021 the bassist and double bass player Emiliano Berti (Pasquale Aprile band) joined the band led by Marilena Vitale, thus enriching the sound with new colours.
