Biography
Hanne Hukkelberg (b.1979) is a Norwegian singer, songwriter and producer linked to Europe’s pop, electronic and experimental music scenes. She grew up learning classical music, was in her teens part of different pop, indie-rock and metal bands, and ended up, after education within jazz, creating her own style. Hukkelberg makes intimate, idiosyncratic music, combining a stylistic range of music with a predilection for unusual sounds and a stunning, versatile voice that has garnered comparisons to Nina Simone, Joni Mitchelland Björk. Hukkelberg’s Cast Anchor(2003) was issued as the first release on the Propeller imprint. The EP and her debut LP Little Things were licensed to Leaf Label in 2005. Sophomore release Rykestrasse 68(2006) won a Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy) in the catchall "open class" category, with The Guardian, Pitchfork and BBC amongst press plaudits. Subsequent albums Blood from a Stone (2009) and Featherbrain(2012) were released to similar acclaim, resulting in touring alongside Wilco, Andrew Bird and José González. Then Hukkelberg embarked a series of commissioned works, including a guest collab with Todd Terje and Bryan Ferry on Johnny and Mary(2014). Self-produced album Trust(2017) was Hukkelberg’s first solo album in five years – hailed her most assured and accomplished work to date. It features singles The Whip (feat. Ingrid Håvik from Highasakite), IRL and Embroidery (feat. Emilie Nicolas). New album, Birthmark, is coming August 16.th.
