Biography

Naarm/Melbourne producer Tim Shiel has built a reputation as a gifted and chameleonic music maker. His singular production style blends samples and found sounds with contributions from a seemingly endless pool of close collaborators, drawing from innumerable styles of dance and electronic music alongside threads of pop, hip hop & ambient music. An insatiable collaborator, Tim has worked with some of Australia's most creative artists including Genesis Owusu, Komang, Close Counters, Kaitlin Keegan, Luke Howard and Flight Facilities. His cross-cultural project with Chinese guzheng virtuoso Mindy Meng Wang 王萌 has found support at NTS, Worldwide FM, Gorilla vs Bear and The Guardian, with the duo recently sharing stages with The Comet Is Coming, Kimbra & Glass Beams. Among his many former lives include a globe-trotting stint as the primary multi-instrumentalist in Gotye’s touring band, a series of critically acclaimed soundtracks for games including Duet & The Gardens Between, a stint packing CDs at one of Melbourne's most beloved duplication plants. Tim Shiel is currently the host of Arvos, the daily afternoons program on national radio station Double J, the sister station to triple j. He also makes dance music under the alias Achingdrum.
